1. How do I set up a file server using SysReset?

Sysreset File Serving Tutorial

First download SysReset from. www.sysreset.com

This tutorial is to teach you how to set up a file server with Sysreset IRC Client, for serving and sharing Anime on #animewired.

Step #1 - Setting up the File Server.

We'll begin by opening up SysReset, and clicking on SysReset > File Server Manager (just like in this picture.)

Step #2 - Ads & Queues & Sends

Doing so should make this window pop up, this is where you can customize all the settings of your File Server. Click the Server Config tab. The area highlighted in red is the controls for your fileserver's advertisements. It is very important that you have your Ad Delay DISABLED and your Slot Display OFF. What this is meant to do is to periodically force an advertisement of your fileserver into the channel: but we DO NOT WANT THAT! We only accept silent ads in #animewired. Next, highlighted in blue is your controls for Sends and Queues. If you haven't used IRC much before, Sends are how many files you will send out at once: usually it's good to set it at 1, so that you don't have 10 sends going at a painfully slow rate. Queues are like lineups, each is how many files each user can queue, and Total is how many queues can exist on your entire file server. Now, click on the File Server Triggers tab at the top.

Step #3 - Triggers & Channels

This is where you will be setting up your triggers: Triggers are strings that users have to say to get into your file server. It's best to use triggers to separate your sections: Anime and MP3s for example. Try not to go too far though, don't make separate triggers for each anime series on your computer. The Area in blue is where you will make and manage your triggers. To create one, click the ADD button, select the directory where your anime is (make sure you don't just select C:\ or else you'll be sharing your entire computer!) and then type a trigger (!Anime or !Movies is fine if you have /CTCP Trigger selected.). Make sure your Settings: frame matches the one in the picture. The area highlighted in Red is where your fileserver will exist. If you only wish to serve in #animewired, just type #animewired in the textbox and click Add, otherwise check the All Channels checkbox.

Now, you can click Done.

Step #4 - Turning on your File Server.

Now to finish it off, click SysReset from the menu, Servers Active > Silent with !list. This will turn your fileserver on. Avoid using On, as it will not be silent, and your ads will be popping up everywhere and getting you into trouble. After this your file server is all set up, and ready to go! If you want to check to see if your Server Ad is up, either ask someone in the channel to !list and check for you, or if no one is around type /server -m irc.aniverse.com (this creates a clone of yourself), join #animewired again and !list yournicknamehere to check. Good work and thanks for sharing in #animewired!

Having Problems?

If you are behind a Router (Firewall), it will block incoming connections to your fileserver. To fix this, you need to change the port your fileserver runs on, and we can do this using a feature in SysReset called Firewall Workaround.

To enable the Firewall workaround feature, open up the Fileserver Manager (above diagram). Select the Server Config tab at the top, and select Advanced Options (in the Pulldown Menu in the top right). Now, on the bottom left there will be a series of Checkboxes grouped as Advanced FileServer. Check the box Firewall Workaround and select whatever port you want (I recommend using port 59, since it is the default. Only use another port if your fileserver still isn't working). Click done. Now your fileserver is acting on an open port of your router, which will let people in and enable you to send files to them.
